Colorado sports agency Boulder Wave, Inc., announces today that 14 athletes represented by the firm will participate in the 2009 IAAF World Track and Field Championships, set to open in Berlin this weekend. “This is the most athletes we’ve ever had qualify for a world championships,” says company president Brendan Reilly. “And I’m happy that our efforts to expand into other events has gone well. It seems everybody knows about our marathoners, but this time in Berlin we will have athletes in the 800m, 3000m Steeplechase, 5000m, 10000m, and of course the men’s and women’s marathons.”
The group includes a strong contingent of athletes with ties to Colorado. Justin Young from Superior will be in the men’s marathon. In the women’s marathon, Lidia Simon of Boulder and Nuta Olaru and Luminita Talpos of Longmont are all in great shape. They hope to take one of the marathon team medals. As usual for Olympics and World Championships a number of Japanese athletes have trained in Boulder, such as Yurika Nakamura, who was 3rd at Bolder Boulder this year and is qualified for both the 5000m and 10000m, or Yoshimi Ozaki, who won last year’s Tokyo Women’s Marathon in 2:23 off her Boulder training, and spent two months here this summer to prepare for the marathon in Berlin.
